Petikan The Star Online: Pro Sport live up to billing

Wednesday April 21, 2010

PRO Sport Taekwondo Club made it two in a row when they emerged overall cham-pions in the fifth Nestle Koko Krunch Junior Taekwondo Championships held at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium recently.

Pro Sport came into the championships as the favourite and having won the title last year, they lived up to their billing by winning four gold, six silver and three bronze medals.

The champions owed their triumph to the prowess of their girls, who contributed three gold to their haul through Fazlin Amira Marnizam (light weight), Nurul Aini (welter) and Nur Sapura Sapuan (middle). Muhammad Alif Mazlan (fly) was their sole boys’ gold medallist.

Second were Koryo A, who won three gold, three silver and three bronze medals while Jagoh A came third with a haul of two gold, one silver and two bronze.

The three gold medals won meant Pro Sport emerged overall girls champions with Victory A (two gold, one bronze) second and Koryo A (1-1-2) third.

Koryo A emerged boys champions with two gold, two silver and one bronze, while Jagoh A (2-1-0) were second and Cemerlang C (2-0-0) third.

They also had more reasons to cheer as bantamweight Farrah Alissa Mohd Roslan was picked as the best girl exponent while Cemerlang’s Muhammad Khairiel Shah (bantam weight) was the best boy exponent.

Deputy Federal Territories and WellBeing Minister Datuk M. Saravanan, who presented the medals to the winners, said he was impressed by the support by the parents.

“I am impressed not only by the commitment shown by the exponents but also the support they have from their parents,” said Saravanan.

About 600 exponents from Klang Valley-based clubs competed in the one-day championship for 20 gold medals – 10 each for the boys and girls.

The next leg of the championship will be held in Ipoh on May 8 with entry limited to 400 exponents.
